“I never thought I’d get into science, but being able to turn salad dressing into a school bus — that’s the kind of chemistry that tickles the fancy.”

— Paul L. Newman

About Newman’s Own, Inc.

Sometimes you get what you want but it is not what you expected. Newman’s Own, Inc. was supposed to be a tiny boutique operation - parchment labels on elegant wine bottles of antique glass. We expected train wrecks along the way and got, instead, one astonishment followed by another astonishment followed by another.

We flourished like weeds in the garden, like silver in the vaults of finance. We anticipated sales of $1,200 a year and a loss, despite our gambling winnings, of $6,000. But in these twenty-five years plus, Newman’s Own, Inc. has grown from salad dressings to an all-natural product line of over 175 varieties of food and beverage items. And what’s even better than our delicious Thin & Crispy frozen pizza? The fact that 100 percent of the net royalties and profits after taxes we have generated since the very beginning have been donated by Paul and Newman’s Own Foundation to thousands of charities around the world - a total which now exceeds $285 million.

Our company motto, “Shameless exploitation in pursuit of the Common Good,” was Paul Newman’s vision for Newman’s Own and it is a philosophy we are proud to continue.
